The G7 has an additional 5MP sensor on the rear camera layout for depth perception and it really shows. The G7 also shoots in a higher pixel range of P in 4K while the Power is limited to only P processing. Neither phone is going to blow you away with the cameras. If you are in great, outdoor lighting then you can have social media ready photos for most tasks. However, as soon as the lighting deteriorates, the results are lessened by a wide margin in comparison to higher-end smartphones.
The Power struggles even more than the G7 at this. I was able to take much better shots with the G7. This is where this review takes a dramatic turn.
Battery life on the standard G7 is completely normal. You do get 27W fast charging that Motorola says can juice up your phone with 12 hours of power in just 15 minutes — and that seems about right in our tests. We did the usual T3 test of watching Netflix for an hour at maximum brightness and a reasonable volume level, and the 3,mAh battery went down from percent to 83 percent: that's a little below par, but equals all-day battery life. In our time with the Moto G7 Plus we very rarely had less than 20 percent battery left at the end of the day, though admittedly we weren't hammering it with use either.
For a huge 5,mAh battery the Moto G7 Power is one alternative to consider. It certainly punches above its weight in terms of what it can do and the features it offers, even if you're never going to mistake it for a genuine flagship. So far so good for the Moto G7 Plus then, but the competition is getting stronger. All that said, we're struggling to think of a phone that's priced this low that is this impressive.

Overall, the G7 Play is good enough for taking occasional snapshots, but little else. One click on the zoomed-in image opens the original in a new window.
